Taylor Starkey 2nd Place Girls High School Elite - UCS Spirit National Pole Vault Summit 2020
Published by
Casteel senior Taylor Starkey, representing Arizona Pole Vault Academy, set the Arizona state high school indoor record with a first-attempt clearance at 13-4 (4.06m) to place second in the girls elite high school competition at the UCS Spirit National Pole Vault Summit at Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. Starkey, who finished ninth last year with a 12-2 clearance, eclipsed the 2010 state indoor mark of 13-2.25 (4.01m) set by Desert Vista's Shaylah Simpson. The Kansas-bound Starkey, the defending Arizona Division 2 state champion, was edged by reigning California state champ Ashley Callahan of Rancho Bernardo based on fewer attempts. Callahan cleared each of her first four heights on the opening try, with Starkey needing three attempts each at 12-4 and 12-10 to remain in the competition. More videos |
